Herbs Hummus

Hummus is an Egyptian food dip or creamy and thick spread made primarily from mashed chickpeas and a few other healthy ingredients that has become popular worldwide over the past couple of decades. Today, it is popular throughout Middle Eastern  cuisine, North Africa including Morocco  and today in commonly eaten across North America and Europe too. It can be found in most supermarkets  and different flavored types of hummus.

Hummus has a rich tradition, some even refer to it as an ancient food that has a history of being consumed by important historical figures in the Middle East.

Hummus is commonly consumed with every single meal in Israel, is frequently included in all "Mezzeh tables" in Syria and Turkey, is eaten most days for breakfast along with bread in Palestine and Jordan and in Egypt and still enjoyed in  many Arabic nations in a variety of meals too.

Homemade hummus with real ingredients is more healthy one then store bought hummus. 

Here, I'm sharing with you my version of hummus with fresh herbs make a wonderful snack or appetizer.

 

Ingredients:

1 cup boiled chickpeas

2 tablespoons roasted white sesame seeds / tahini paste (optional)

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped

2 cloves of garlic

2 tablespoons of fresh coriander, chopped

3 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon black pepper

Salt to taste.

 

Directions:

 

In a blender, pour boiled chickpeas, reserving about a tablespoon for garnish. Place roasted sesame seeds, lemon juice, all fresh chopped herbs, chopped garlic, salt and pepper . Blend it until you get creamy texture and well mixed.

Transfer the mixture into a serving bowl. Pour olive oil over the top. Garnish with reserved chickpeas and fresh parsley.

 

Enjoy with pita bread or graham crackers!!
