Brown rice and chick peas pulao

Super easy pressure cooker brown rice and chick peas pulao. Unpolished brown rice is very healthy, rich in antioxdidants, higher fiber content, nutrients then white rice and is best for those who are health conscious or adopting a healthy lifestyle. Brown rice is a healthy alternative to white rice. The addition of protein packed chick peas adds more goodness to making it a wholesome meal.

I follow this pressure cooker method to cook for those who are running out of time in the morning to make lunch box and this recipe keeps fuller and satisfied for a longer time as brown rice is a boon for those who wants to reduce weight.




INGREDIENTS:

Cooking time- 10 minutes ( soaking time not included )

Preparation time- 5 minutes
Serve - 5 to 6



2 cups brown rice, soak in hot water for an hour,

1/2 cup chick peas, soak in water for 4 to 5 hours.

1 onion, chopped

Ginger, 1 inch piece finely chopped

2 star anise ( optional, cinnamon stick and cardamom )

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon red chili powder

Salt to taste.

1 tablespoon  oil 


DIRECTIONS:

Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add chopped onion stir for a minute till you get light brown colour.

 Now add soamed chick peas, soaked  brown rice, coriander powder, star anise, hing, red chili powder and salt to taste. Saute for few minutes. 

Add water, ( if 2 cups rice then add 4 cups water)  and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.kb

Once the pressure subsides, open it and fluff with fork.

Serve hot if not carrying in lunch box. 

Garnish with any herbs you like.
