Steamed fish with mustard ( Assamese recipe )

Fresh water fish, cooked, fried, baked or steamed is always delicious. Small fish are loaded with vitamins and protein, highly antioxidants. Fish is a staple food of north east part of India, especially in Assam. Early in the morning, fish mongers get variety of fresh water fish in every door steps, so you can't stop yourself from buying it.

Small fish can be cooked in different ways, sometimes when you have enough time in hand, you can steam it. Here is my version of steamed small fresh water fish with mustard paste that goes well with steamed rice.

INGREDIENTS :

250 grams small fish

2 tablespoons mustard soak in water

4 - 5 green chilies

Salt

Oil

2 banana leaves / silver foil

METHOD :

Clean small fish, wash it and keep aside.

Make a paste of mustard seeds

Now rub fish with salt and place in banana leaves, put mustard paste on top of it and slit green chilies.

Tie banana leaves and place in steamer or you can place on griddle over medium heat and cover it. When colour of banana leaf turned into pale green colour that means fish is done.

Remove it and mash all fish with mustard paste and green chilies well.

 Serve it !!
