Green pea pods with mustard

Peas have been a part of our culinary repertoire from roasted versions to gravy dishes and winter is the best time to relish fresh green peas though it is easily available round the year, there is nothing like spending those nippy evenings with hot cup of tea and matar tikki. My version of cooking fresh pea pods which is delicious.

Peas are versatile and easy to cook with. If you are a lover of vegeterian food and one of those who can't bear the monotony of daily meals, I present you this regular ingredient in exciting look. INGREDIENTS :

500 grams fresh green pea pods

1 large potato, cut into long strips

2 tablespoons mustards, soak in water

2 green chilies

3 - 4 garlic pods

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1 onion, chopped

Salt

Pinch of sugar

Pinch of turmeric

Oil for cooking


METHOD :

Clean fresh green pea pods and wash it properly.



Make a paste of whole cumin, green chilies and garlic and keep aside.

Make a paste of mustards and keep aside.

In a skillet over medium heat, add chopped onions stir it for few seconds. Now add potato and whole fresh peas. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Add salt and turmeric, stir it well. 

Add whole cumin mixture with little water and pour over it. Mix it well. Cover and cook in low heat. Add water if needed. 

When peas are half cooked add mustard paste, pinch of sugar and cover it. Cook in low heat until whole peas are tender. Remove from heat and serve. 


Note : Don't stir it too much, otherwise  peas will come out from the shell. Enjoy with steamed rice !!
