Baked fish with mustard seeds paste ( Assamese recipe )

Fish cooked, fried, roasted or baked can be a lavish dish, if you add just right ingredients. Assamese community love to eat small fish cooked in banana leaf, and I opted this method to  bake fish. Lunch made real easy on just 15 minutes, this baked fish with mustard seeds is all made in a banana wrap to enhance the taste with fresh aroma.




The mustard seeds paste is especially delis because the juices of the fish mingle in with it while it's baking. It took a handful of goes to get it right. As expected getting the right smooth  paste was the main ingredient. 

Tender , juicy fish with a smooth paste of mustard seeds, a really fantastic way to baked fish in an organic way by using banana leaves is super yum and delicious recipe to relish your meal. 


INGREDIENTS :

500 grams fish preferably boneless

Few banana leaves

3 tablespoons mustard seeds

1 tablespoon poppy seeds

2 green chilies

Pinch of sugar

Salt 

Mustard Oil

Green/red  chilies for garnish

 

METHOD :

Preheat oven at 200 degree  C.

First make pieces of fish, wash it properly and keep aside.

Now soak mustard seeds and poppy seeds in water for an hour. Rinse it properly and remove from water by using strainer.

In a blender, put these mustard seeds , poppy seeds, green chilies and a pinch of sugar. Blend it in a smooth paste.

In a bowl, transfer this mustard mixture, add salt and mix it well. Now mix pieces of fish with this mixture well.

Make pieces of banana leaves. 

Place this  fish one by one in each banana leaf, pour 1/2 teaspoon mustard oil on top of it and place a green or red chilies on each pieces . No wrap it properly.



Place in a baking tray and bake it at 200 degree C for 15 to 20  minutes.

Serve it with steamed rice. 


NOTE: You can use silver foil, if there is no banana leaves.
