These potato dumplings may taste like they took all day in the kitchen but with just few ingredients and three simple steps, these homemade potato dumplings recipe is beyond easy.

My love for dumplings around the world always made me explore different types. I made these Silesian dumplings which are potato dumplings traditional to the Silesian region of Poland and Germany. Also called “White dumplings”. Silesian dumplings are so popular throughout Poland that they are readily available in the refrigerator case of supermarkets all over the country. You will find all over Central and Eastern Europe except for the addition of the indentation in the center of Silesian dumplings.

These soft potato Silesian dumplings have a particular shape. Simple and genuine contain few ingredients and are quick and easy to prepare. Their shape with a dimple in the middle has two benefits, it helps the dumpling cook faster and it is a wonderful repository for whatever topping is paired with the dumplings and make them an excellent side dish or main dish. These can be serve best with meat sauce , cheese , butter or any type of creamy sauces.

I have served these Silesian dumplings with mushroom stroganoff and orange gravy as main dish. Happy to served  as an unique vegan main dish  for vegan guests.

1/2 kg potatoes
1/2 cup plain flour / potato starch or corn flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Method:

Boil peeled potatoes in salted water. Drain , wait until they are slightly dooled down then mash it until smooth. Set aside until they are cold.

Put mashed potato into a bowl ,  add flour , salt and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated. Lightly flour your hands. Take a bit of dough and make a ball of a size of a walnut. Make a simple in the center of the ball by using your knuckle of finger. Set aside on a lightly floured surface and do the same with the rest of the dough. If you feel that the dough is too feeble add more flour/ potato starch or corn flour .

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Place some part of the dumplings into the water and cook them for 3-5 minutes. The cooking time depends on the quality of the potatoes. Taste the dumpling while cooking, they should be tender but compact. Drain and set aside. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.

Now serve it with your choice of sauces or whatever you like to serve with it . Enjoy this easy dumplings!!
