When you want a cake that has a mild taste, delicate texture and bold color of red velvet cake, and everyone will love but with a little different than usual one , than this fun twist Blue Velvet Cake is exactly what you want to make. Incredibly easy to make , rich and creamy , wonderfully moist crumb and the perfect flavor balance between vanilla and buttercream.

The blue in this cake gives a gorgeous look . The cake is dense, yet soft with a dry crumb in sight, and the best part of this cake was I achieve the vibrantly blue hue that I was aiming for . This cake was a show stopper in birthday party. The flavor of blue velvet cake is the same as a red velvet cake- fluffy vanilla cake.


You can use a natural dye to color the cake. There are various types of natural food dyes available to buy online. Or you can use red cabbage with baking soda to create a blue color or you can use blue pea butterfly flower. These are absolutely best choice for natural blue colors.

Ingredients of making blue velvet cake : 

Following ingredients for making blue velvet cake are available in local super market : 

3 cups all purpose flour
 2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 cup vegetable oil / olive oil 
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder 
4-5 light blue gel color 


For frosting : 

1  cup butter, softened
3 cups  powdered sugar 
2 tablespoons vanilla extract 
2 tablespoons milk 
Light blue gel food color

Method for frosting : 

Beat all the ingredients together with an electric beater until stiff peaks form, nearly about 5-7 minutes. Mix in the food gel color and keep aside. 


Method for cake : 

Preheat oven at 180 degree C. Grease two baking dish and keep aside.

In a medium size bowl, first beat eggs with milk and vanilla extract. Than add oil and sugar into it and beat together. You can use electric beater or standing mixer. 

In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, salt and baking powder. Now pour the liquid mixture into it. Mix it well. 

Now add light blue food color into it and mix it until combined well. 

Divide the batter evenly between the  two greased baking pans.

Bake it for 30-35 minutes or until the tooth pick comes out clear in the center.

Allow it to cool once baked. 

Using a cake slicer or knife , remove the domes from the cakes.

Place one layer of cake into the cake stand.

Scoop about 1/2 cup of buttercream frosting onto the first layer and smooth out with a angled spatula. Place the second layer of cake onto the first layer of frosting.

Scoop another 1/2 cup frosting onto the second layer of cake and smooth evenly and frost the entire cake. Now decor cake with remaining frosting.
