Have you ever eaten aloo koftas cooked with til / sesame seeds paste ??
Well , this is my fusion dish , tried this recipe for the first time during Navratri fast , when my foodie husband always demand something new to eat. This recipe is prepared with just few ingredients, there is no garlic and no onion . When he savoured one bite of it , his reactions was like instantly transferred to food heaven, I too amazed with it’s taste . Immediately, we relished whole lunch with that only , which is a very rare scenario at our home.
Aloo Kofta curry is a delectable North -Indian recipe and when it got married with North -East’s popular til curry , it enhance the beauty and flavour of this dish. This vegetarian or you can say vegan main dish that is very simple to cook and full of flavours . The smell of roasted sesame seeds wafted out from the house , it’s nutty flavour along with hot green chilies and creamy taste of baked koftas filled with dry fruits will satiate your taste buds craving for a rich dish.
Try this delicious dish on arrival of new guests at home to amaze them with unique flavour , you can try it on festivals, dinner or lunch party . Serve it with rice or roti but we enjoyed it as a complete meal in fasting.
Ingredients for making til aloo kofta.
Following ingredients for making til aloo kofta are available in local grocery shop.
For koftas:
2-3 big potatoes ( boiled )
8-10 cashews
8-10 raisins
1 teaspoon red chili powder
2 teaspoon chat masala
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon cooking oil
For gravy :
1/2 cup black sesame seeds , roasted and powdered
2-3 green chilies ( paste ) , according to taste
1 tablespoon cumin powder
Salt to taste
Pinch of turmeric
Cooking oil ( preferably mustard oil / refined oil
Method :
In a medium size bowl , mashed potato finely , add chili powder , cooking oil , chat masala and salt .
Mix it well and make balls out of this mixture , stuffed each balls with cashew and raisins .
Place in a parchment paper and baked in a preheated oven till you get light golden colour . Or you can shallow fry it in a non stick pan .
Now koftas are ready .
For gravy :
Heat oil in a skillet , add chili paste , then add powdered black sesame seeds , fry for few minutes , add salt , cumin powder and turmeric . Cook till you get nice aroma of sesame seeds . Add a cup of water and stir it well .
Now add koftas onto it and gently stir it so that sesame seeds mixture incorporated well with koftas . Don’t stir it repeatedly otherwise koftas will be mess .
Garnish with chopped chilies and mint leaves or coriander .
Serve hot .
